Impulses for product data quality & standardisation in the healthcare sector

Bayard Consulting Group has made a significant contribution to the creation of a uniform standard for product information in the healthcare industry. This standard is an important enabler of numerous digitisation projects of hospitals, buying groups and manufacturers of health products and contributes to the security of supply and patient safety.

Bayard Consulting had already supported the largest buying groups of hospitals in Germany in establishing COVIN, a standard for product master data in the healthcare sector that meets the specific requirements of the industry. Now it has been succeeded to harmonise this established standard with that of the GS1 community, so that it can be used without restrictions in the Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN), which so far has been used predominantly by the consumer goods industry.

The specialists of Bayard Consulting Group helped to make this possible in a working group of the GS1 Germany. The results have now been published by GS1 Germany as industry paper “Produktstammdatenqualität im Gesundheitswesen” (“Product Master Data Quality in Healthcare”).

Four of the largest buying groups of the German healthcare industry have set up the Healthcare Content Data Portal (HCDP) with Bayard Consulting as their consulting and technology partner. Today, well over 150 suppliers provide their master data for over one million products in a standardised format to the central data pool HCDP of the associations P.E.G., Prospitalia, Sana Einkauf & Logistik and EKKplus. Other suppliers are now continuously joining the new industry standard and supplying their product data to the HCDP. The Bayard Consulting team also supports the onboarding of newly participating suppliers.
