»Healthcare sector survey reveals need for action when it comes to product data«

The time to act is now.

A recent survey with around 30 companies from the healthcare sector gives a clear image: most of the companies face enormous challenges in the management and provisioning of product information. The reasons for this lie in their system landscape and data processes as well as in the missing connection to global data pools, which optimise and automate the exchange between suppliers and data recipients in the area of healthcare. Valid product information and transparent processes are the basis for future-proof business, particularly in a highly regulated industry such as healthcare. The requirements are rising and global standards such as EUDAMED and other UDI initiatives as well as the ongoing digitalisation of the processes within healthcare are increasing the pressure on the companies to push their own digitalisation.

The results of our survey are supported by other studies, too. Another survey, which analysed the maturity level of the e-healthcare supply chain of business partners of Sana Einkauf & Logistik GmbH came to the conclusion that for 62%, a missing single source of truth constitutes the biggest challenge in the area of product master data. 46% complain about inefficient data quality and almost one third (31%) name manual processes and media breaks as the most important challenges. Product master data is a major cause of concern for clinics, too – especially when it comes to the provision of consistent data standards there seems to be a lot of room for improvement. The numbers are clear – there should be no more hesitation. The time to act is now.

  • High optimisation potential for product data
  • A central system to manage product data? Negative!
  • Processes – one of the core issues even with a PIM system
  • Great uncertainty in connecting to UDI databases
  • An action plan for healthcare suppliers
